Även öppenheten och omgivningens kunskap kommer att öka och bli bättre för varje år som går. Det leder i sin tur till att många nya dörrar kommer att öppnas. Boken 'Hur kom jag till' har vuxit fram på grund av våra många års egna kamp med ofrivillig barnlöshet. Först som en del att "skriva av mig" under de många och långa perioder av utredningar och väntetider. En hel del funderingar och tankar har hunnit stötas och blötas genom åren. Under den här perioden har bland annat denna idé till barnbok vuxit fram. Det har varit många turer och vi hoppas att våra erfarenheter ska vara till nytta för andra familjer som befinner sig i den här situationen. Jag har insett att det inte finns mycket ickemedicinsk litteratur att få tag på inom området. Det är mest kliniska fallstudier och läkaravhandlingar, strikta lagtexter och en hel del utländskt (amerikanskt) material som dyker upp när man 'googlar'. Jag har under de här åren befunnit mig på olika hemsidor, chattrum och bloggar för kvinnor och par i min situation. Alla efterlyser litteratur. Det finns traditionella så-kom-jag-till-böcker, men det är svårt att finna passande barnlitteratur inom äggdonation och provrörsbefruktning. Jag tror starkt på att en sådan här bok behövs. Detta är en bok som riktar sig till små barn, men boken är egentligen ett verktyg för föräldrarna att ha till hands när de, tillsammans med sitt barn, berättar om provrörsbefruktningen och äggdonationen. Informationen måste sakta och naturligt växa fram och den här boken kan vara en del i det arbetet. Boken andas trygghet, ärlighet och kärlek. Jag tror egentligen att det många gånger är vi vuxna som komplicerar till det hela. Barnen är många gånger rakare och ser saker mer för vad det är. Det finns ännu ingen lag som säger att man är tvungen att berätta för barnet att den genetiska länken kommer från en tredje person, men man uppmanas ändå för barnets bästa att göra det i så tidig ålder som möjligt. All kunskap och erfarenhet pekar på att barnen mår allra bäst av att få veta sin genetiska härkomst från det att de är mycket små. Frågeställningen har vänts och vridits på gällande den 'riktiga' mamman i dagspress och diverse forum. Den juridiska och biologiska modern contra donatorn, alltså den genetiska givaren. Jag har kommit fram till svar på mina frågor och enligt min åsikt är det egentligen väldigt enkelt, så varför krångla till det? I boken används lättsamma ord, mycket värme och busigheter, tillsammans med många färgglada illustrationer. Utsnitt ur bokens innehåll: Roxs spärrar upp ögonen och ser med ens väldigt högtidlig ut. 'Den snälla tanten!!' 'Ja, det var den jättesnälla tanten. Hon visste att det fanns sådana som pappa och jag som inte kunde bli med barn, eftersom mina egna ägg inte funkade så bra. Och hon ville ge oss chansen att få en liten rackarns busunge som du'. Mamma blåser Roxs på magen, så att hon kiknar av skratt. Hon vrider sig som en korkskruv och sprätter snabbt upp på knä. 'Känner vi henne, säger hon nyfiket?' 'Nej, vi vet inte vem hon är. Och hon vet inte heller vilka vi är. Vi har aldrig träffats. Vi vet bara att hon är jättesnäll och att vi är henne evigt tacksamma. Men om du vill, kan du ta reda på vem hon är när du blivit stor. Det bestämmer du själv'. 'Vilken tur att hon gav er några av sina ägg. Die Embryonenspende ist nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern in vielen Ländern eine Behandlung, die selten durchgeführt wird. Das hat mehrere Gründe. Zum einen gibt es nur wenige Paare, die Embryonen zur Spende freigeben. Das ist nachvollziehbar, denn in den Augen vieler Paare sind dies auf gewisse Art und Weise Geschwister ihrer Kinder. Es ist für sie kaum vorstellbar, dass diese Kinder in anderen Familien groß werden und sie nicht wissen, ob es ihnen gut geht. Zum anderen wird die Embryonenspende in einigen Ländern aus juristischen Gründen nicht durchgeführt.
Auch in Deutschland wurde lange Zeit vermutet, dass sie einem Verbot unterliegt. Im Jahr 2013 gründete sich in Bayern jedoch das Netzwerk Embryonenspende Deutschland e.V. (bis 2019: Netzwerk Embryonenspende), und seitdem gibt es immer wieder Paare, die ihre eigene Familienbildung abgeschlossen haben und kryokonservierte Embryonen, die sie nicht mehr selbst benötigen, für andere Paare spenden.
Bislang sind über 33 Kinder nach einer Embryonenspende in Deutschland zur Welt gekommen. Hinzu kommen sicherlich viele Kinder, deren Eltern im Ausland eine solche oder ähnliche Behandlung durchgeführt haben. Hierzu liegen allerdings keine Zahlen vor. Wir wissen somit nicht, wie viele Kinder es in Deutschland tatsächlich gibt, deren Eltern eine Embryonenspende im Ausland durchgeführt haben. Wir wissen allerdings, dass die Behandlungsmöglichkeiten im Ausland größer sind. Dort kann man nicht nur überzählige Embryonen eines Paares annehmen, sondern auch Embryonen aus gespendetem Samen und gespendeten Eizellen; dies wird manchmal als „Doppelspende“ bezeichnet.
Mit diesem Buch möchten wir Ihnen die erste Aufklärung Ihres Kindes erleichtern. Denn wir wissen, dass Kinder nach Samen- oder Eizellspende, die frühzeitig und auf spielerische Art von ihrer Zeugungsgeschichte erfahren, dies einfach in ihr Selbstbild integrieren können und mit dem Wissen, dass andere Person zu ihrer Zeugung beigetragen haben, unbelastet aufwachsen. Ähnliches gilt wahrscheinlich auch für Kinder nach einer Embryonenspende: Sie erleben aufgrund der frühen Aufklärung keinen Bruch in ihrer Identitätsentwicklung. Zudem kann es nicht zu einem Bruch im Vertrauensverhältnis zu ihren Eltern kommen, da es kein Familiengeheimnis um ihre Zeugungsgeschichte gibt. Selbstverständlich stellen sie – ihrem Alter und Entwicklungsstand gemäß – immer wieder Fragen, was die Behandlung und die Personen betrifft, die gespendet haben. Und manche werden sicherlich sehr neugierig sein und wollen diese Menschen und vielleicht auch ihre Geschwister kennenlernen. Es ist sowohl für die Embryonenspende als auch für die „Doppelspende“ geeignet.
